We Are Standard Project – What You Should Know

We Are Standard is more than a simple life hacks blog; it is a project of passionate writers from many niches and domains. These writers make good money from their passion by selling their articles to major online newspapers and magazines, but they also write for you for free in the pages of this beautiful blog.

We Are Standard is the name under which they initiated this project, but it is more than standards things that you will find in the pages of this blog.

Hey, let’s make a blog for all these things…

Matt Drummonds and Benjamin Alfie wrote for significant newspapers online, such as Newsweek and New York Standard. One night, they were talking about their careers and thousands of articles that they wrote during the past 20 years. Not all of them got to the pages of the publishers, as some editors don’t appreciate the real nuggets of the internet that could become viral. ‘I remember when I wanted to write about the strange things that you can find on Google maps, and my publisher said it is a subject that no one wanted to read about. He was wrong. As soon as I published the piece on We Are Standard, it got thousands of visitors daily.’

However, We Are Standard was the idea of Ben, who once said, ‘Hey, let’s make a blog for all these things that our publishers never wanted to publish. And let’s not make it standard.’

Although Matt and Ben are not , they were able to find a reliable company, to buy a domain in minutes and also to install a secure CMS to make a sleek and intuitive website for their readers.

As they were known authors in their niches, and they knew they were able to drive traffic to their websites since the first days, they went for a Virtual Private Server . This package only costs a few tens of dollars a month, but it offers all the facilities required by a robust beginner’s blog.

Soon, more bloggers and friends of theirs joined the project, so We Are Standard is now a complete collection of articles from various niches and industries. What they have in common? The passion for writing and the desire of several experienced bloggers to have space where they can publish free, without worrying about the censorship of an editor.

Matt and Ben are really proud of their blog, as it is maintained with minimum expenses and brings them thousands of visitors that they could not get on their mainstream websites. They admit they were lucky to find a web hosting company with some reasonable prices and excellent customer support. They said customer support is critical, as in the lack of a web developer, they have to sort all the problems of the website by themselves.

We are standard is only one of the success stories of people writing online for good money. If you are passionate about your trade and a little talent in …

Top 10 Websites that Will Add Character to Your Wardrobe

1. www.urbanoutfitters.com

I’ve ordered from this site several times and I love the products. Most things are reasonably priced and I am always satisfied with my purchases. They also have some stores in bigger cities, but some items are only available online.

They have more than just clothes and accessories. They also sell apartment furniture, books, and other fun trinkets. It’s a great place to order inexpensive gifts for friends.

I also read the OU blog and download the playlist every month.

  1.  www.modcloth.com

This online vintage shop is not only adorable, it also has some of the most unique finds on the web. It is a lot like Urban Outfitters, but some of the items are one of a kind. It is also has a lot more retro glamor style , which I personally adore.

Again, most pieces are reasonably priced and the site literally has a look for every occasion.

  1.  www.etsy.com

Etsy is a great online source for online fashion. They specialize in vintage and hand-made crafts. They have a lot of stuff, much more than just clothes. But I have found some great designers on the site with shockingly low prices. It’s a great place to buy and sell vintage jewelry, or garments.

I have also found a ton of eco-friendly shops on this site. Every seller has a “shop” and they all set their own prices, so some things are pretty expensive, but if you look around for a while you will find some good deals on beauty natural products and home-sewn clothes.

  1.  www.bluefly.com

This is a slightly more expensive site, but it offers more high-end brands. I really like the accessory selection, personally. It is always a good idea to check what is on sale.

Right now there is a sale on Rebecca Minkoff hand bags and I am using all of my self-control not to order one!

  1.  www.mango.com

Mango has the biggest selection online. Honestly, if you need a black skirt or a basic top you can find exactly what you need here at a decent price. If you want something flashy, or more professional you find both in the same place.

Everything is pretty classy. A lot of websites show really great pictures and send you cheaply made garments, but Mango has never let me down. Most pieces look more European and I really like that myself.

  1.  www.net-a-porter.com

This is by far the most high-end and luxury online site I have on the list. It’s really where I look to see what is new, though I don’t usually shop as online stores that are out of my price range. If I want to blow my rent money, I like to at least try on the clothes first.

But if style is more important than dollar bills, I suggest checking out this super chic shopping website.

  1.  www.frockshop.com

I love the designers on this site! Though it is still a bit out of my shopping price range, I would encourage anyone to take a peek at …

Five of the Best Websites for Cat-Related Entertainment

The Internet is made of cats! Cat-related humor can be found all over the Web and with good reason: cats rule! Sure, they have the occasional bout of toxoplasmosis and sometimes an angry mother cat may attack people like Bailey Black, but if the Internet has proven anything, it’s shown just how talented, funny and full of teh cutes kittehs really are. Do you want in on some of this purr-fect action? Of course you do. For all you cat fans out there, here are five websites for fantastic felines.

brown tabby cat

  1. MeowCheese.com This site hosts a load of lolcat photos. There are a few dogs thrown in the mix here and there (unfortunately), but for the most part, it’s good cat fun. Users can upload their own photos, build their own lols, vote on lol submissions that may be featured on the front page, or just scroll through and enjoy the pictures and captions.
  2. KittenWar.com This is the toughest contest on the Internet! You are given two pictures of kittens, and you must click on the photo that you feel is the cutest. Plenty of tough choices in this one, I assure you. Still, aside from having to judge their cutes, you also get to enjoy them. And who doesn’t like pictures of adorable cats? It’s a great boredom killer.
  3. StuffonmyCat.com What do you get when you have a cat and then you put stuff on it? What kind of stuff, you ask? Maybe flowers, hats, toys, pillows, ribbons; you know, STUFF! Back to the question. What do you get? You get a website dedicated to cats with random items on them. Nothing harmful now! Just see for yourself. Their kitty expressions are great!
  4. KittehRoulette.com When you first load the site, you are given a random cat video. If you find that cat boring or the video ends, click “next” to be given a new video. You know, a parody of another “roulette” site on which you video chat with random strangers until you click “next”. This is better than any chat roulette, though. You won’t have to deal with random rejections or nudity. The cats don’t click next and are always covered by fur coats! Well, except for this guy.
  5. ICanHasCheezburger.com You can’t have a list of funny cat websites without the classic ICanHasCheezeburger lolcat site. Like MeowCheese, you can upload, create and vote on lolcat pictures, but you can also connect with ICHC on Facebook and Twitter. Plus, they have a store in which you can purchase all the necessary lolcat merchandise and a bunch of other non-cat photo caption sites. Good stuff!

I hope everyone finds these picks as cat-tastic as I do. If cats ever do take over the world, they’ll be pleased I told you about this and spare me.

What!? You find that ridiculous? Shows what you know. Cats are already experimenting with our technology in an attempt to master and use it against us.…

Viewing Websites on Your Kindle E-Ink

It is sometimes pretty difficult to view websites on your Kindle E-Ink. The reason being, the Kindle E-Ink will zoom the webpages out and make them really small. That means, you must strain your eyes to see the content on the webpage. However, there are a couple of ways to view websites that makes it a little less harder on the eyes. Continue reading this article to learn how to better view websites on your Kindle E-Ink.

Start by opening your browser and loading a webpage. Any webpage will work. When the webpage loads, you will need to load your settings menu. So press the Settings button on the bottom of your Kindle. When the Settings menu opens, you will have a couple of different options. Let’s take a look at those options.

Change Font Size

One of the things you can do is change the font size of the text on the site. If this is the option that you want to go with, move your cursor to that option in the Settings menu and select it. You will now see a few different options for changing the size of your text. Move the cursor to the option you want to go with. You can also rotate the screen to help you better view webpages. Once you make your selection, press the middle navigation button and the menu will close and you will see the font at a new size.

Zoom In

Another option you can use for viewing webpages is the Zoom In option. This option allows you to zoom in to a webpage so you can easily read the content. To use the Zoom In option, you will need to open your Settings menu again. This time, instead of moving your line to the Change Font Size option, move it to the Zoom In option and select it by pressing the middle navigation button. That will close the Settings menu and you will see the site zoom in and get larger.

Either option you use will work just fine. If it is images you are looking at, it’s probably best to go with the Zoom In option. If it is just text, then using the Change Font Size option will work just fine.…

Online Coupon Code Websites Easily Save Your Time and Money

Many of us clip coupons. It’s an easy way to save a few bucks here and there. However it does take time to go through all the newspapers and magazine clipping out the coupons you think you’ll use, and then it’s a nightmare keeping it all organized for the next time you go shopping. Also, many of us are now shopping online more and more, and enjoying the convenience, and quite often the savings. These days, most online stores now have an option to enter a coupon code during checkout.

Unfortunately, these coupon codes are sometimes hidden on a page on the site you didn’t visit or in magazines you don’t subscribe to. But with coupon code websites, you don’t have to spend your life looking for coupon codes you only might use later. With the convenience of coupon code websites, you can simply search for the website you’re purchasing from on the coupon site before checking out to make sure you aren’t missing out on a deal.

My favorite is RetailMeNot.com, but there’s also CouponCabin.com and CouponMom.com, just to name a few. Also, you can easily more by simply using your favorite search engine to search for “coupon codes.” Once you find some websites you like, bookmark them for later. When you are actually making a purchase from a site, load up the websites and search them for the specific site you’re ordering from. By searching for the codes only once you decide to buy from a particular place, you save time spent finding and organizing coupons you don’t even end up using.

Sometimes you’ll search everywhere but there are no deals to be found. This happens, but this is one of the times where the coupon sites show their convenience. It takes, at best, two minutes to search through several coupon sites. If you don’t find anything, you’ve wasted only two minutes. If you do find a deal, you’ve probably saved more dollars than minutes spent.

Some stores are more likely to have codes floating around than others. In fact, some stores never have any. However if even only one or two of your regular stores consistently has codes, you can save quite a few dollars over time. Online coupon code sites have the same savings as traditional coupon clipping, but with significantly less time spent. This makes these websites appealing to both regular coupon clippers, and those who had never wanted to spend the time on it. Coupon code websites are a new opportunity to save a little green.…

Top 10 Random Websites

One of my favorite activities is to aimless wander around the internet, finding and lingering around places that pique my interest. I have compiled a list of 10 of my favorite finds.

Sandhills Lighthouse Inn (http://www.sandhillslighthouseinn.com) A breathtaking Victorian lighthouse, built in 1917, it has been turned into a bed & breakfast. It is located on the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan. After seeing this stunning lighthouse, and you envision yourself on the balcony, overlooking Lake Superior, sipping a cup of hot tea you may want to look up plane ticket prices. The nearby airport (~20 minutes from the lighthouse)is called Houghton County Airport located in Hancock, Michigan.

Laurium Manor Inn (http://www.lauriummanorinn.com) 13,000+ square feet of beautiful Victorian elegance. I have actually been here to take the tour at least a dozen times. It’s incredible. The innkeepers have brought this mansion, built in 1908, by an absurdly wealthy gentleman as a gift to his wife, to life with their extensive antique collection. Historical accuracy is very important to them. They have done a lot of research and tracking of the original furnishings this house once held, so many objects are indeed original to the house. In addition to the Laurium Manor, the innkeepers also own several other houses all located around the Laurium Manor. From the stained glass, the elephant skin wallpaper, the beautiful master staircase, the Hoatson safe, the carriage house, it’s an antique lover’s d-r-e-a-m.

An excellent website for children’s craft ideas (http://www.childmade.blogspot.com) You could literally spend days on this website checking out all the unique craft ideas for kids.

Vienna Glenn Photography (http://www.viennaglennblog.com) This beautiful, young lady is an extremely talented photographer and writer. Her pictures are wonderful but her writing is insightful, mature, and superb. The short poems and musings are found sporadically placed throughout her photography. The photographer lost her father at a very early age, leaving her mother to raise 6 children. The thoughts this gifted young lady has on why her father passed away, religion, and purpose here on earth are very thought-provoking and well beyond her 20-something years.

Okay, this one is very, very broad but it has everything. I mean EVERYTHING. It is absolutely fascinating the talent and skill people have. Just clicking on the main homepage of Etsy will bring dozens of objects and goods to your attention. Start clicking away and get lost in the world of Etsy. Handmade and vintage collections. Collections created by people from all over the world. From Vietnam (http://www.etsy.com/shop/saigonwoodmodel) to Italy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/ChiccaStyle).

Not only is Real Simple my favorite magazine, it is also one of my favorite websites for recipes, home decor ideas, and ways to recycle & reuse goods (http://www.realsimple.com).

Music. Pandora (http://www.pandora.com) is awesome! It’s completely free to join. You start by letting it know what type/genres of music you enjoy. It then plays music by some of your favorite artists to artists that you have never heard of. When a song comes on that you don’t enjoy you click the thumbs …
